Delores Beckman

Delores was the author of two children's books. The first, My Own Private Sky (Dutton) won the International Reading Association's Book of the Year award in 1981. Sky, as she called it, went in to three printings before it went out of circulation. Her second book Who Loves Sam Grant (Dutton) was written for the young adult age group. (Delores had titled the book, The Boy In The Wings, but alas, the editors came up with a name that suited book sales.) Delores did a great deal of writing between 1960 and 1992 and had many, many short stories published. She raised a pretty good kid *smile*, was active in her church, played the piano beautifully and was a wonderful wife.

Delores was married to my father for 59 years when she died. At the last, she had a tough time and my father took excellent care of her in their home until the last 18 hours of her life. She died in a nearby hospital, with my father at her side, praying with her, talking to her and singing to her.
