Jack Beckman was a grocer, worked for the California State Board of Equalization, and had vision to buy the land in San Dimas Canyon. He loved his wife and raised his family in the canyon. When the L.A. County Flood Control decided they had to have Beckman's land to dump dirt from the dam up the canyon, Jack only stayed in California a few more years.
In 1970, Jack and Dee moved to Arizona. In Arizona, they found a new place to call home. And Jack found Montezuma Well. There he began as a Volunteer In Parks. At 94, he still went to the well every day. There he treated visitors to wonderful stories about the well and area, told of the well's history and sang an occasional song. Jack moved to our home in California, in 2004. He sang in the church choir until he was 95. In 2006 he moved to assisted living. He had been dreaming of angels, coming to get him. On February 3, 2008, they did. He went very easily.
He wrote a history of the well and the people it touched. Here, are some highlights of that history.
