Broken Implements

I tend to be a pretty happy guy. Many are griping about having to stay home during COVID-19, but it has given me time to fix some things. That’s good because much of my “equipment-machinery” has been failing:

1. I put a new engine in the motorhome in San Jose. Our friend Manny helped me, and I helped him with some projects. When I got home on March 28th, my pickup had water in a cylinder.

2. Started working on the pickup. At this writing I still cannot get the head off. Special tools, heat, hammering, and general struggling.

3. Got the motor home out to go on a short trip with friends and the blackwater tank was leaking. (Yeah, the one you think I mean.) With Ruth’s help, we put in a new one. Only had about 7 setbacks during that time.

4. Ruth’s all electric lawnmower was having troubles, so I put new bearings in one of the motors. (Ruth married me because I can fix things.)

5. The garbage disposal started leaking, so I replaced it with a ½ hp Badger 5. I was going to get one for $214, but luckily my friend Randy said an $89 Badger 5 would do it. That went well and the entire installation took 30 minutes. (Ruth married me because I can fix things.)

6. When finishing the Motor home, I still had a small leak, so I got under there and put another clamp on the valve. I noticed a hole in the tail pipe near the end.

7. I ordered everything from Amazon and put in a new tail pipe, complete with an additional small muffler to make it quieter than ever.

8. The lawnmower wasn’t running as long as usual. I was afraid the lithium batteries were failing, but it turned out to be the charger getting wonky. (Ruth married me because I can fix things.)

9. The whole house fan quit working, and so I called the company and they sold me a capacitor. Didn’t help. Finally took it apart and the oilless bearing in front was binding. I oiled it with Singer sewing machine oil and it runs fine. (Ruth married me because I can fix things.)

10. The dash AC in the motorhome leaked it’s freon and I have that on my list. Not sure where the leak is, so I got some dye and a light to find the leak.

11. Monday, I think I will go out and have a reckoning with the pickup. (I wish I could fix things.)
